Veatch
Funding Guidelines
|
The
Unitarian Universalist Veatch Program at Shelter Rock supports programs
that foster the growth and development of the denomination and that
increase the involvement of Unitarian Universalists in social action.
The
Veatch Program
also supports
organizations whose goals reflect the
principles of Unitarian Universalism.
The UU Veatch Program's non-denominational grantmaking is limited
to U.S.-based organizations with a locus of activity in the United States.
|
Support
is generally provided only to non-profit, tax-exempt organizations as
defined under section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue
Code.
The
Veatch Program does not make
grants to individuals or government institutions, nor is funding provided
to organizations for capital projects, endowments,
annual contribution drives, historic preservation, direct
services,
scientific or academic research, film or video productions, publications, cultural
activities, or partisan politics.
|
Veatch
operates its 10 million dollar grantmaking program with seven staff people
supporting the work of an all-volunteer board. Of the over 1,500 grant requests we receive each year, a little
under 200 receive funding, and many of these are renewals. The
majority of Veatch grants are made for a period of one year. Grant requests are not considered from organizations with a
current grant or from organizations that have failed to comply with
reporting requirements or other conditions of a previous grant. Organizations with a current grant from the
Unitarian
Universalist Funding Program (which includes the Unitarian
Universalist Fund for A Just Society, the Fund for Unitarian Universalism,
the Fund for International Unitarian Universalism, and the Fund for Unitarian Universalist Social Responsibility)
or from the
Long
Island Unitarian Universalist Fund are also
not eligible.

Application
Procedures
|
If you are interested in applying for a Veatch grant, and your organization meets the described guidelines, please submit a two-page Letter of Inquiry (LOI) that includes the following: organization name, contact person, address, email, telephone number; the amount being requested, brief organizational background including history, purpose and accomplishments; a description of the proposed project, including the constituency being served, the problems being addressed, and the anticipated results. We will acknowledge receipt of your letter and contact you if we need additional information. Unfortunately, because we receive so many proposals, we cannot take calls regarding the status of an application.
If, after reviewing your letter, we are interested in further consideration of your project, you will be asked to submit a full proposal. There are no deadlines for receipt of inquiry letters and all letters will be reviewed by Veatch staff. The Veatch Board meets regularly throughout the year.
All Letters of Inquiry should be mailed to:
Unitarian Universalist Veatch Program at Shelter Rock, 48 Shelter Rock Road, Manhasset, New York 11030.
Or you can email to: jan@veatch.org
